Ignorance, Manipulation and the lack of Innovation ¿Mexico 1970?

THE FUNNEL OF TIME: TODAY WE PRESENT MEXICO 1970

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, a series entitled "The Tunnel of Time" was broadcast in Mexico, inspired by the famous novel "The Time Machine" by H. G. Wells.

I never imagined being a witness of how we could travel in time, so it is truly a feat that the current administration of the Mexican Government, through the "Fourth Transformation", has managed to combine time with the three three-dimensional variables of space. , thus achieving a machine like the one indicated by HG Wells in his novel, capable of teleport us from 2021 to the 70's

MEXICO BACK TO THE 70´s

Between 1970 and 1976

President Luis Echeverría, in addition to practicing repression and populism that led us to financial disaster at the end of his six-year term, quietly tried to be reelected, sought to receive the Nobel Peace Prize and ran for Secretary General of the UN.

In addition, to the foreigner he presented himself as a true democrat while in Mexico, he stifled freedom of expression.

When we are faced with political decisions based on ignorance, manipulation and lack of integrity, phenomena contrary to all logic occur that push us as a country every day, to a loss of competitiveness and impoverishment of the population; using our time machine again, we now transport ourselves from the 70's to May 2021, where we will observe that ironically the conditions are very similar to the Mexico of 50 years ago.

For example, on May 14 "El Financiero" Mexican Magazine, published "Power plants in Mexico change natural gas for fuel that is more harmful to the environment"

The country is creating a market to absorb excess fuel oil, prohibited by the global shipping industry, but this measure will increase emissions.

📍Mexico's power plants are burning fuel so dirty at its highest level in three years that the global shipping industry banned its use last year.

Switching from a power plant that uses natural gas to drive a turbine to using fuel oil generates 16 percent more carbon dioxide

📍Because the global shipping industry is shying away from sulfurous fuel to reduce emissions, storage tanks in Mexico are overflowing with fuel. The solution for Mexico is to use more of it for electricity generation, replacing cheaper natural gas, which is often imported from the United States. As a result, demand for the fuel increased nearly 50 percent in the past year to more than 100,000 barrels a day in March, according to government data.

📍 "Mexico is creating a market to absorb excess fuel oil from refineries," said Ixchel Castro, an analyst at Wood Mackenzie.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, MEXICO'S SOLUTION

At the time, the great Mexican hero and first secretary of public education, José Vasconcelos, expressed many years ago "Only books will bring Mexico out of barbarism; ignorance is the cause of injustice, and education is the best ally of justice, teacher and tyrant are two terms that are excluded, on the other hand, liberator and teacher, they are synonymous "

We could add to what Vasconcelos said, that Science and Technology are the fundamental tools for Mexico to become a more innovative and therefore more competitive country, however, the Mexican educational system teaches students to memorize in instead of reflecting, imagining and creating.

INNOVATION, AN UNKNOWN ISSUE BY THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT

Innovation is a process that can be learned:

The best known innovation is the “radical”, however, this can be analyzed from different perspectives:

PRODUCT INNOVATION

When the design characteristics of a product change in a way that implies new or improved services for consumers.

PROCESS INNOVATION

When there is a significant change in the production technology of a good or service. For example, the implementation of ERP's / CRM's.

OTHER WAYS TO INNOVATE:

Organizational and service innovations can also be made.

Innovation can be learned because it is a process that translates knowledge into growth and social well-being and can be classified, depending on whether its starting point is the customer / consumer or the research and development of a company.

🔹 DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION

It occurs when customers do not want to pay more for existing products and prefer cheaper and smaller products, but good enough: low-cost flights, digital cameras and MP3s.

🔹 INCREMENTAL INNOVATION

It happens when improvements are made to existing products and services: for example, the successive improvements that a mobile phone has had, household appliances.

In disruptive and incremental innovation, the key to transformation lies in customer needs.

🔹RADICAL INNOVATION

When there is a discontinuity between how a product was and how it is now, derived from the results obtained by companies through their Research, Development and Innovation areas: from copper to fiberglass or, when they switched from TV with kinescope to flat television.

In radical innovation, the key to transformation lies in the capabilities of the company itself.

DIVERGING THINKING, KEY TO INNOVATION

“Children produce very original ideas, because they have not yet learned, like us adults, to be afraid of their ideas.

Little by little we acculturate them and submit them to our patterns and our molds. When they reach adolescence they try to break them but by then we have them so molded into the system and so domesticated that we can threaten them that they will be rejected by the medium and they will be a failure if they dare to follow their ideas and impulses "

“Knowledge becomes action”, when it is translated into Innovation, thus generating growth and well-being.

Your challenge, Citizen of the XXI Century, is to know how to interpret knowledge to achieve Create Value in your family and organizational environment. The simple transfer of information no longer constitutes greater knowledge nor is it a competence; anyone can transfer information including junk information.

Knowledge is based on convergent thinking which is widely used by managers and executives of the 21st century, however, not everyone has the ability to use divergent thinking which, since childhood, and given the educational system we have, it is blocked.

BEFORE STARTING IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW OR REMEMBER WHAT THE CYCLE OF THE INVENTION MEANS

The "Knowledge becomes action" when through it, a person, company, organization or country, improves their environment by improving their living conditions and for this the Cycle of Invention is essential.

This cycle is made up of four elements:

The Invention Cycle: how it works

1. Faced with a challenging situation, solutions must be found to resolve it, however, these solutions, as they do not yet exist, will have to be IMAGINED; IMAGINATION IS EQUIVALENT TO PERSONAL OR ORGANIZATIONAL VISION

2. The imagined solutions will have to be tested in the real and tangible world through proposals and / or prototypes that give us certainty that they are viable, this process is called CREATIVITY, AND IS EQUIVALENT TO THE PERSONAL OR ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION

3. Once it has been proven that the imagined solutions are viable through creativity, we will realize that we have found INNOVATIVE, different solutions that are the solution to the challenge posed in point one.

INNOVATION IS SOMETHING THAT MAYBE SOMEONE HAD ALREADY IMAGINED, BUT HAD NOT IMPLEMENTED IT; REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL TYPES OF INNOVATION (DISRUPTIVE / RADICAL AND INCREMENTAL)

4. Finally, the ability to inspire others with creative solutions that were shown to work, leads us to the ENTREPRENEURSHIP process, WHICH IS EQUIVALENT TO FINDING ECONOMIC, MATERIAL AND HUMAN RESOURCES FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATION.

FLUIDITY OF THOUGHT

Ideas are the energetic fuel for innovations. It is not the same logical thinking and fluid thinking.

To illustrate, let's see how these two types of problems differ from each other:

1. Finding the best headline for a newspaper, or the best name for a new car, is a clear example of convergent thinking and looking for a certain answer. In the scientific field, dilemmas in black and white are very frequent: such thing is true or false; convergence is imposed.

2. Identify the assassin of John F. Kennedy, or specify the amount of silver that

produced New Spain in 1705, it is an example of divergent or lateral thinking. But there is also room for imagination (divergence).

For convergent problems there is a solution; for divergent problems there is no solution, but some solution.

But, to generate a creative mind, you need to develop "Thought Fluency" and ideas are the energetic fuel of innovations.

Three typical characteristics of divergent thinking are usually pointed out: fluency, flexibility and originality.

In general, in a university degree, you learn mostly (70%) convergent thinking and perhaps 30% or less of divergent thinking.

Divergent Thinking is based on the creative process, which implies Fluency and Flexibility

We have been educated to clearly distinguish between knowledge (knowledge, information) and imagination, which is the kaleidoscopic handling of that knowledge.

It is now time to direct our batteries towards the right hemisphere of our brain, which is intuitive, emotional, experiential, non-analytical, metaphorical, synthetic, holistic, fanciful, subjective, spatial, lateral, primary, subconscious.

It is time to put -for a moment- aside the left hemisphere, which is logical, sequential, rational, intellectual, realistic, objective, analytical, critical, schematic, linear, secondary, numeral, verbal, conscious, which is what you have used primarily in the race.

The first step is to overcome or transcend reality through our imagination, which is neither more nor less than the first ingredient in the Cycle of Invention.

Often the least obvious is the most novel and useful, that is, the most creative.

NASA spent a lot of time and money before "discovering" that the best locomotion mechanism on uneven terrain has been the spider for thousands of years.

✔ The bat that locates objects with its ears, anticipated ultrasound and radar.

✔ The scorpion that detects with its legs the vibrations produced by its prey on the ground, he anticipated the seismograph.

✔ The fly solves the difficult problem of inverted landing.

✔ Ships were perfected before the model of fish, airplanes before the flight of birds, and computers before the human brain.

At this moment, I am inviting you to dream, because in waking dreams (daydreams) the entire brain works.
